It would be an African hat-trick in the 3000m final at the World Indoor Sopot in Poland if only Kenyan-born Bernard Lagat did not opt in recent years for an American citizenship.
After a run smoothly conducted, Caleb Mwangangi Ndiku imposed himself in 7min54s 94 final 3000 m. So the Kenyan outclassed Bernard Lagat (7mn55s22). Silver medalist, the American of 39 years and 87 days becomes the oldest athlete to win a medal in a World indoor competition.
The podium was completed by the Ethiopian Dejen Gebremeskel (7mn5539).
At 39 years and 87 days, Bernard Lagat becomes the oldest ever medallist in a men’s event at the World Indoors. #Sopot2014
