Basket-ball NBA: Phil Jackson officially named president of the New York Knicks

dm_140318_nba_phil_jackson_presserHomecoming for Phil Jackson! The former coach of the Chicago Bulls (1989-1998) and Los Angeles Lakers (199-2004 and 2005-2011) became head of the New York Knicks. Phil Jackson change hats and takes that of leadership. The former winger returns to Knicks as president of the franchise.

Prior to becoming a legend on the coaching bench with 11 NBA titles, including six with the Bulls (record for a coach) over 13 finals played, Phil Jackson has spent 13 seasons in the league as a player including 11 in the Knicks. Drafted by the franchise in 1967 – ed, 17th pick in the draft, he won two NBA Champion titles with the franchise (1970 and 1973).

“Phil can succeed with them (note: the Knicks) because he is gifted. Phil is fantastic to manage egos of each, get everyone on the same wavelength and maximize the potential of each to achieve what should be the ultimate goal,” said Michael Jordan before formalizing the nomination.

“It is not because he has never been in such a position before that he is not able to do well. It’s quite a moment since he wanted to become a leader and I know he can be successful … if he has the necessary elements at his disposal,” added the owner of the Charlotte Bobcats.

This appointment could end hopes for Lakers Nation to form a Big Three around Kobe Bryant that includes Knicks winger Carmelo Anthony.
