Football Italy: Three doctors to face justice for the death of a player

Piermario MorosiniErnesto Sabatini (Pescara club), Manlio Porcellini (Livorno club) and Vito Molfese (emergency services at Pescara) were already under investigation since 2012 after the Piermario Morosini case, the name of the Livorno player who died of a heart attack during a game in Serie B in April this year.

They are suspected of negligence because no defibrillator was used at the time of the tragedy. However, according to a panel of experts heard in the course of the investigation, the use of semi -automatic defibrillator present at the stadium that day could increase the chances of saving the life of the footballer.

The three doctors will eventually be tried for negligent homicide. Their trial will begin on December 1st.

Morosini had collapsed on the field during a Pescara -Livorno Serie B (Italian 2nd division) match on April 14. His death shocked Italy and led to the suspension of all soccer championships that weekend as a mourning gesture.
