Europe ATP Nice: Gael Monfils withdraws

The French, seeded three, invited by the organizers of the Nice tournament had to give up being on the court Wednesday for his second-round match that was to oppose him to Spaniard Albert Montanes.

Sliderman declared his withdrawal after he felt pain in his ankle on Tuesday. The 24th player in ATP who was on the court alongside Benoît Paire for the double competition, lost in three sets against the duo Daniele Bracciali-Oliver Marach. Monf obviously did not want to take risks just few days ahead of the Internationaux de France (May 25).

Montanes will face American Sam Querrey for a spot in the third round.
