A former Ghanaian international, Derek Boateng had the chance to progress at the highest level in Europe. He has played among others at FC Cologne, Getafe, and Fulham. At 37, the defensive midfielder thinks that his greatest memory in his career is playing for his country. Although his dream is to compete in very high level matches, both in club and in selection.

Disappeared from speed cameras for a few years, Boateng resurfaces with an interview with Goal. An interview in which the former Eibar player touched on several topics including his greatest accomplishment.

“When I started playing football, my ambition was to play for Ghana and defend my nation all over the world… I also wanted to play in Europe as a professional player, play in the Champions League and meet all the best players in the world. I accomplished that, “ he said.

“But the most important thing was to play for Ghana. It was good to play in Europe and all that, but playing for your national team was something special. In Europe, they paid us a lot of money. With the national team, you don’t get that kind of money, but the joy is incredible. I’ve played about 46 games with the Black Stars and I don’t know which one to choose as the most special. All the matches were special to me, ” he concluded.

As a reminder, Derek Boateng is part of the Ghanaian selection which participated for the first time in the World Cup in 2006.
