Achraf Hakimi agent recently confirmed that the Moroccan side will most likely return to Real Madrid after two successful loan years with Borussia Dortmund .

Achraf Hakimi’s great German years will soon be behind him. Arrived in 2018 at Borussia Dortmund, the Moroccan defender should return at the end of the season to the training club which saw him emerge from his academy in 2017, Real Madrid.

The talented right-back has long been linked to several major European teams including Chelsea, Arsenal and Inter Milan, among others, all wanting to wrest the services of the Moroccan nugget. His agent, Alejandro Camaño, ended up silencing the rumors that still surrounded his future. In an interview with Spanish sports daily Mundo Deportivo, the agent said that Hakimi would indeed return to Real Madrid at the end of the current German season. It would therefore not extend the loan contract, the end date of which had been set at June 30, 2020.

What future for Real ?

Conversely, doubt still hangs over its future place within Zinedine Zidane’s workforce. The French technician could find it difficult to give him a chance at his preferential position. In 2019-2020, the right-back role for the Merengues was both coveted by Dani Carvajal, but also Alvaro Odriozola or Nacho Fernandez.

Hakimi would however bring youth to a Madrid group in need of renewal. He would also retain the admiring gaze of North African fans by playing again in La Liga, one of the most popular divisions for the Maghreb public, according to the Arabian Betting website. Whoever was voted Best Young Player at the 2019 CAF Awards would especially come back ready for this next challenge by having accumulated in his legs two years of high level experience in Dortmund, which he still lacked when he left in 2018.

To finish beautifully

Now considered one of the best right-backs in the world, the 21-year-old built his reputation after two years of quality at Signal Iduna Park where he won over the German public as soon as he arrived. Having quickly made its way into Lucien Favre’s apparatus, there will notably have been the German Super Cup on August 3, entered in the 75th minute of a match during which Borussia Dortmund dominated their rival, Bayern Munich (2-0). Since then, after 27 games in the Bundesliga, and 8 in the Champions League, Hakimi has brought his counter to 8 goals and 10 assists in yellow and black colors. He recently boosted the race for his team by finding the net again against Wolfsburg on Saturday May 23 (2-0).

Before his almost inevitable return to Spain, Hakimi would be keen to finish on a high note. He only has a few weeks left to help the BVB knock Bayern Munich from a Bundesliga throne on which the club has settled too comfortably for seven consecutive seasons.
