After being sacked by Ajax Cape Town in November 2019 for poor results , the name of Benni McCarthy was tied to Orlando Pirates .

In a recent declaration to South African Football Journalists Association (SAFJA) , McCarthy says he never has talked with the boss of Orlando Pirates as rumours shouted it .

“Yes , I was linked with Pirates [before they hired Josef Zinnbauer] but I never had a conversation with the chairman (Irvin Khoza)” he denies .

However , McCarthy praised the work done by the German coach as the latter is doing well with his former club (2011-2013) .

“Pirates made their decision at this point in time that seems like it was a right decision . He (Zinnbauer) has done relatively well with Pirates.

The team is playing better , and it seems he is getting the best out of a lot of players , I’m happy for Pirates…” Bafana Bafana top scorer (32) said .
