South Africa Itumelang Khune is like a big brother – Rownen Williams

There is a tough competition over the goalkeeping post in South Africa national team. But Rownen Williams anlyses things differently.

Talking to City Press, Super Sport United’s goalkeeper evokes the rivalry with veteran Itumelang Khune who recovered from an injury.

“I’m just glad Itu [Khune] is back and has his injury problems behind him. He’s one of the best [goalkeepers] we have and to see him miss so much action is not nice” he said.

Futhermore, the 28-year-old insists on the fact that Khune (keeper of Premier Soccer League giants Kaizer Chiefs), is a brother of him. Despite the rivalry in national team.

“Even though we are competing at international level, I still want him to be there because he’s like a big brother,”

“When we are in [the Bafana] camp, we share a room. We’ve got a good bond. I’m glad he’s back. We’ve got the best goalkeepers around the PSL.” he added.

Declarations similar to a post he made on Twitter two years ago (november 14 2018). Talking about the leadership of Khune, amid of critics.

However, Rownen Williams is not yet ready to abandon the fight. For the national team’s number one jersey belongs to him who fights for it.

“We must all continue pushing and fighting because that Bafana number 1 jersey doesn’t have anyone’s name on it. So, whoever wants it must work hard and grab it.” he added.
