African players abroad Ighalo’s Wait For First League Goal In Red Devils Jersey Continues


Odion Ighalo’s search for his first Premier League goal for Manchester United continues as he fired blank in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham on Friday night at the Tottenham Stadium.

Ighalo has scored four goals for the Red Devils since he joined the club in January from Chinese Super League side, Shanghai Greenland Shenhua on loan.

His four goals were scored in the Europa League FA Cup but he is yet to score a Premier League goal for his ‘Dream club’.

He agreed to extend his loan spell with the Red Devils after it expired on May 31 that will see him remain in the Premier League till January 2021.

Friday crucial game saw the former Watford forward benched by Ole Gunnar Solksjaer who preferred playing Anthony Martial upfront supported by Marcus Rashford and Daniel James.

Ighalo came on for Martial in the 78th minute but could not get much of the ball as he was given a closed marking by Tottenham defenders.

His only beat chance of the game came in two minutes of added time when he was played him, but the fly was raised for offside.

Ighalo is the first Nigerian player to play for Manchester United and the seventh Africa player to do so.

He have seven more goals to equal South African forward, Quiton Fortune who scored a total of 11 goals while playing for Manchester United.

The Red Devils were rescued by the whisker through a late Bruno Fernandes penalty goal to stop Tottenham from running home with all three points after Steven Bergwijn had put the host in front in the 27th minute.

Ighalo’s quest for a Premier League goal will continue on Wednesday when Manchester United hosts Sheffield United at Old Trafford.
