Nigerian Players abroad Chukwueze Makes Late Cameo As Villarreal Extends Unbeaten Streak

Samuel Chukwueze made a late cameo as Villareal edged closer to clinching a UEFA Champions League ticket following a 2-0 away victory against Real Betis.

Chukwueze who started in last week victory at home against Valencia was benched by manager Javi Calleja who played Javier Ontiveros in his position.

However, the Super Eagles winger joined the fray in the 80th minute coming in for Carlos Bacca as the Yellow Submarines continued their impressive run since the La Liga restart.

Chukwueze quickly made his impact felt immediately he was introduced into the game as he crossed a ball to Gerard Moreno which the Spaniard failed to convert.

It was a great performance for Villarreal who are hoping to return to Europe competition next season with the Champions League as their target.

Villarreal is yet to lose a game having gone six games unbeaten.

They once again displayed their hunger for victory against Real Betis thanks to two first-half goals from Gerard Moreno. 

The result was a deserved one as Villarreal manager, Calleja in his post-match conference urged the players to keep on with the momentum.

He said, “We’re on an excellent run, playing well and getting wins. 

“We’re showing how good we can be, but now we’ve got various finals ahead of us to get our aim. 

“Against Betis, we were in the right space mentally and we couldn’t ease off against top players. 

“We were great in every aspect, both with the ball and when we had to defend.”

They now have 16 points from a possible 18 since the league returned after the break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Next up for Villarreal is a home game against FC Barcelona at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Sunday,10 pm .
