Africa Soccer AFCON 2023 will hold in June/July, CAF confirms

2023 AFCON

2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will take place in summer. As CAF’s secretary General Abdel Bah said it earlier on Thursday.

Talking to BBC Sport Africa, Abdel Bah confirms that 2023 AFCON will be played between June and July. For the host country Ivory Coast did not send any modification date to CAF.

“As of today, the 2023 Nations Cup is planned for June/July because, to make it clear, in the regulations we have decided to play all Nations Cups in June/July,” Abdel Bah said.

However, Bah recalled that 2021 AFCON has been postponed to January-February 2022 with the agreement of Cameroon authorities. As conditions could not allow the country to host the competition in summer as scheduled.

“The Nations Cup in Cameroon, after the request of the authorities, was postponed to January/February,” he said.

“As of today, we haven’t received the same request from Ivorian authorities.” added Bah.
