Nigerian Players abroad Nigerian Players In Europe Wrap Up: Omeruo, Awaziem Relegated

It was a busy weekend in Europe Leagues as Nigerian players were much involved in action for their various clubs.

After the Bundesliga ended, last month, the 2019-2020  Spanish La Liga season climaxed on Sunday.

Also the Turkish Super Lig new kings was crowned and Istanbul Basaksehir is the new Turkey league kings.

Africa Top Sports monitored the performance of Nigerian players in their various clubs in Europe.

While some players were on the losing side, others were on the winning team.

Also while others were rejoicing for winning the league, others have to be relegated to the lower division.

Here are how some players monitored performed with their club.

In Spain, it was unfortunate result for Kenneth Omeruo and Chidozie Awaziem as Leganes held on to 2-2 draw against newly crowned champions, Real Madrid.

Leganes needed three points to save them from relegation, but couldn’t get it.

However, Omeruo and Awaziem didn’t play as they sat all through and watched their club drowned.

Leganes finished in 18th position on the LaLiga table.

At the Estadio De la Ceramica, Samuel Chukuweze was in action for 62 minutes as Villarreal ended the season with an emphatic 4-0 win over Eibar.

Chukwueze was replaced by Javi Ontiveros as the Yellow Submarines finished fifth to book a Europa League ticket next season.

Ramon Azeez played full time at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes for Granada.

The midfielder was instrumental to Granada successful campaign in the just concluded LaLiga season.

Granada defeated Atletico Bilbao 4-0 to seal a Europa League spot next season after finishing seventh.

Kelechi Nwakali played for 90 minutes as SD Huesca defeated Sporting Gijon to lift the Spanish Segunda Division title on Monday night.

In England, it was a disappointment weekend for all Nigerian players in the Premier League.

Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho featured for Leicester City as they suffered a 3-0 loss to Tottenham.

Ndidi started the game as usual but was substituted by Nampalys Mendy in the 70th minute.

His compatriots Iheanacho was brought in by Brendan Rodgers in 59th minute with Leicester already trailing with 3-0.

The defeat dented Leicester’s Champions League qualification for next season.

Chelsea ended Odion Ighalo’s FA Cup journey as the Blues thrashed Manchester United 3-1 at Wembley to seal a London derby final with Arsenal.

Ighalo who had been instrumental in Manchester United FA Cup success this season was benched by Ole Gunnar Solksjaer who had always started en route the semi-final.

Alex Iwobi was an unused substitute for Everton who returned to winning ways.

Iwobi who had started in Everton last previous games was left out by Carlo Ancelotti as the Toffees ended their winless streak.

In the Serie A, Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong came in as a substitute in the 85th minute for Wallace as Udinese suffered a 2-1 loss to Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo.

Ekong introduction could not help Udinese from sinking as they currently occupies 16th position on the league table.

Ola Aina featured in 90 minutes as Torino suffered a 2-0 loss to Fiorentina.

Torino are now 15th on the league table.

In Turkey, Azubuike Okechukwu won the  Turkish Super Lig title with Istanbul Basaksehir.

The former U-23 captain however did not featured in the game as Basaksehir defeated Kayserispor 1-0 on Sunday to claim the title.

Still in Turkey, Anthony Nwakaeme was in action for Trabzonspor who defeated Konyaspor 4-3 at home.

Nwakaeme who had made 29 league appearances and scored 11 goals, played for 45 minutes.
