Nigerian Players abroad Onyekuru To Play Under Kovac In Monaco Next Season

Henry Onyekuru will play under Niko Kovac in the 2020-2021 Ligue 1 season following the appointment of the Croatian as Monaco new manager .

Kovac signed a three-year contract plus an optional season as Monaco new manager following the ouster of Robert Moreno.

Onyekuru who returned to Monaco in June will be hoping to impress Kovac in order to fight for a first team jersey.

The Super Eagles forward who struggled last season after his move to Monaco last season was not included in the squad that defeated Cercles 2-0 on Sunday.

Kovac was presented afternoon in Monaco with the vice-president Oleg Petrov and the sports director Paul Mitchell, who is behind his recruitment. 

They will later fly to Belgium on Wednesday, where Kovac will lead his team for the first time in a friendly match between the Monegasques and Standard de Liège, behind closed doors. 

The former Bayern Munich manager after agreeing to terms spoke with the media for the first time.

He admitted his move to Monaco is a big challenge and the kind he like.

“It’s a big project, a big challenge, the kind of thing that I like. With Paul, Oleg and the whole team, we will give our best. 

“We are eager to get to work, and I hope that a bright future awaits us.

“I am on the right track to start a new cycle in a new country. 

“This is the fourth country in which I have worked. 

He appreciated the effort predecessor, Moreno and wish he finds another job quickly.

“I appreciate Monaco, and I think this is the right place and the right project for me.

“It’s always difficult when a person has to leave a club.

” I hope Robert Moreno can quickly find a new club.

” I wish him the best for the future, for him, his staff and his family.

Kovac is not a stranger to Monaco’s La Turbie training ground as he recalled training there with Bayern Munich.

“I remember this training center. In 2001 we trained here with Bayern Munich. 

“On this side there was a pitch (he shows a renovated part of La Turbie). And here was the entrance to the gym.
