Leon Balogun has decided not to extend his loan deal with Championship side Wigan Athletic following their relegation to the English third division.
Balogun signed for Wigan on 31 January 2020 on a six-month loan deal from Brighton and Hove Albion.
And on 25 June 2020, he signed a short term permanent contract with the Latics until the end of the 2019–20 season.
However following a deduction of 12 points by the English Football League(EFL) from Wigan, the Lactics will play in the third division next season.
Wigan point deduction was due to the club going into administration which now saw them dropped to 23rd position in the championship table.
Balogun after learning the club will not play in the championship next season decided to part ways with them.
He tool to his Twitter account to announce his decision.
“The togetherness, the honesty and warmth of the people in and around the club is simply amazing.
“I would have wished to end my spell with a different outcome, but unfortunately that’s beyond our control now.
“I also want to say thank you and goodbye to Paul Cook and his staff, the team and the whole Tics Family @LaticsOfficial It’s been a very short & super intense time and I’m happy to have played my part in it.
“Regardless I will always remember this as a very special time in my career, in a very special place with a very special club full of very special people.
“THANK YOU WEgan, I salute you.”
