Nigeria Scouting Overseas Born Players Hinders Grassroots Football -Amunike

Former Super Eagles winger Emmanuel Amunike says the scouting of Nigerian born oversea players is the reason local league is not developing.

The current Super Eagles squad is made up of mostly oversea born players and the former Tanzanain National team coach has voiced out.

Players from the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) struggles to be call up to the senior national team.

The only regular player is Ikechukwu Ezenwa who is barely used by Gernot Rohr.

Amunike while expressing his displeasure said the exclusion of the local based players is the reason the grassroots football in Nigeria is not developing.

He said, “I’m not totally against the exceptionally talented players included in team but not just any player.

“This move (including players with overseas decent) serves as an opportunity of not taking responsibility of developing grassroots football knowing that somewhere in Europe there are players of Nigerian descent who have the right training already and will walk straight into the national team.”
