The former Atlas Lions captain admits to trying to sign Ziyech to Roma. But this attempt was ultimately unsuccessful. According to the defender of Al-Duhail Sports Club, the boss of the Italian club James Pallotta had considered this transfer of expense unnecessary.

“I had tried to get [Hachim Ziyech] to come to Roma, and he would have run to join this club. I spoke to Francesco Totti and Edin Dzeko, telling them he’s the right man for them. As a symbol of the club, Francesco did all he could to secure the deal, but Pallotta said it would be ‘an excessive expenditure’ and nothing ever came of it, ” Mehdi Benatia said in his interview with the Sportweek magazine of La Gazetta dello Sport.
