Nigerian Players abroad Chukwueze In Action As Villarreal Wins First Pre-Season Game


Samuel Chukwueze was in action for Villarreal who kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 3-1 win against Cartagena at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia.

Chukwueze performance impressed his new manager Unai Emery who also made his debut as manager.

Emery handed Yellow Submarines new signing trio of Francis Coquelin, Dani Parejo and Take Kubo their first game.

Coquelin and Parejo were named in the starting XI, while Kubo came in as a substitute and in the second half, Chukwueze and the others who started the first half were rested for a new XI.

Villarreal got off to a flyer with Fer Nino scoring the opener just one minute and few seconds into the game. 

Cartagena equalized through Simon Moreno in the 19th minute to set the friendly game more competitive.

Chukwueze’s team went ahead once more in the 24th minute this time it was Gerard Mireno who received a ball on the edge of the box before firing a shot with his left foot which went straight inside the net.

With the first half ended 2-1, a new set of XI began the second half and the only goal of the second 45 minutes came from González.

He touched the ball over the line after Paco Alcácer fired towards goal a cutback from Alfonso Pedraza, who had got to the touchline.

Villarreal will continue their pre-season on Tuesday when they host Tenerife in their second game.

The Yellow Submarine finished 5th in the 2019-2020 La Liga and missed the chance of playing in the Champions League.

However, they will play in the Europa League next season.
