Nigerian Players abroad Akpeyi Injures As Bidvest Dents Chief Title Hope


Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi suffered a collision as Kaizer Chiefs suffered a 1-0 loss to Bidvest on Sunday in the Absa Premiership.

Akpeyi who has come under heavy criticism from Chiefs supporters and ex players injured two minutes to before half-time break.

The goalkeeper was injured after he successfully dealt with a cross from the left before he collided with the leg of a Bidvest player.

Despite a lengthy medical attention, the goalkeeper was unable to carry on as it could be the end of the season for him with two games to end the season.

The Nigerian shot-stopper was stretchered off for Bruce Bvuma as he left the pitch head high by keeping his team in the game. 

With Akpeyi off Chiefs began to hunt for goal as they began the second half but it was Bidvest that threatened first when shot from Phathutshedzo Nange nearly broke the deadlock however Bvuma got down to gather.

Wits looked to change the complexity of the match after 58 minutes and introduced Rowan Human, who replaced Mathebula in the middle of the park while Ernst Middendorp threw on Willard Katsande for Baccus.

Chiefs had the ball in the net two minutes later after Nurkovic tapped in at the near post from an unmark position following Anthony Akumu’s low ball, but he was flagged for offside.

The Serbian striker should’ve put Chiefs ahead in the final minutes from a low ball out wide, but the Serbian went horribly over.

The miss was punished by the Clever Boys when Eva Nga ran onto a through ball after beating the offside for a composed finish in time added on, derailing the Amakhosi’s title hopes in the process.
