Premier League Premier League Ponders Quick Return Of Fans To Stadium

Premier League is already pondering how fans returns could return to stadium in order to avoid further financial issues ahead of the 2020/2021 season.

Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Masters disclosed that failure for supporters to return back to the stadium as early as possible could cost clubs £700m during the 2020-21 season when the league finally gets underway on Saturday.

Since June when the Premier League restarted for the conclusion of the 2019/2020 season, football has been played behind closed doors following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

With the 2020/2021 sets to kick off on Saturday, fans will not be allowed into the stadium to avoid further outbreak of the COVID-19 in the UK.

However, Masters told BBC Sports that it is imperative that fans return to stadium as soon as possible as clubs have already lost more than half a billion pounds after last season was disrupted by the pandemic.

“We have to get back to fans inside stadia as quickly as possible – that’s the big thing that’s missing, economic or otherwise.
We need fans back inside stadiums for all sorts of reasons and it’s the number one priority,” he said.

The UK government said it could restrict gathering of more than six people due to the rising numbers of COVID-19 with effect next Monday.

Masters admitted that there will be bumps on the way for clubs and they should be ready to adapt to that.

“It doesn’t lower our ambitions – it just means that we’ll have to adapt – its one thing we’ve shown over recent months.
We’re able to adapt to the situation.

“We wait to see what impact it has on the government’s testing programme, and permissions it’s going to give, and also on that crucial 1 October date.

“We wait to see what the government decides and we’ll remain in dialogue with them throughout.

We always knew September was going to be a difficult month at the start of the return to normality the government was talking about, and so we should anticipate bumps in the road.”

“As it stands, no fans will be admitted to top-flight matches in England before October at the earliest.

On Wednesday UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that there will be a review of plans for for supporters to return by October 1.

The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) on Wednesday announced that the Scottish Prime Minister has allowed a pilot test for home fans to return to the stadium.

SPFL in a statement on its official website said 300 home fans will be used as pilot test as they begin gradual process for fans to return back to the Stadium.
