Nigerian Players abroad Kalu, Maja In Action As Bordeaux Share Spoils With Lyon


The duo of Nigerian international, Samuel Kalu and Josh Maja were in action for Girodins de Bordeaux in Friday’s Ligue 1 stalemate against Olympique Lyonnais.

Kalu started for Bordeaux leading the attack in a 4-2-3-1 formation as the sole striker but played for 61 minutes before he came off for Yacine Adli.

His compatriot, Maja who scored on Matchday 2 for Bordeaux joined the fray in the 74th minute as he came in for Nicolas de Preville.

Bordeaux held a Lyon side that reached the semi-final of last season  UEFA Champions League to at length to remain unbeaten in three league games.

Lyon, fresh from UEFA Champions League and a comfortable 4-1 win over Dijon FC were aiming to make it two wins from two games.

But Bordeaux matched their opponent man for man as they repelled whatever Lyon threw at them.

Lyon with their pedigree of scoring in all previous 15 Ligue 1 games, were kept Lyon quiet in the first half. 

Bordeaux kept on making things difficult for Memphis Depay and his teammates as Rudi Garcia men struggled to get their impressive attacking machine into top gear after the break too. 

Bordeaux are yet to concede a goal this season having played a 0-0 against Nantes in their opening game.

This was the 36th draw in the 113th meeting between these two. Lyon have won 39 of their encounters, Bordeaux 38.
