Asamoah Gyan is expected to react following Ghana Football Association‘s statement on Sunday in which Swansea City star Andre Ayew has been confirmed as Black Stars captain.

Ghana FA announce new roles for senior’s national football team in concertation with Black Stars head coach Charles Akonnor. And Asamoah Gyan has seen his General captain role removed.

”The Technical Team of the senior national team, the Black Stars upon a broad consultation has maintained Andre Ayew as Captain of the Black Stars.” reads the GFA statement, per Ghanasoccernet.

“The Swansea City attacker who led Ghana to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, maintains his position as leader of the team despite changes at the technical realm of the senior national team.”

Moreover, Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has been named as first Deputy captain. While Maritzburg’s goalkeeper Richard Ofori is handed 2nd Deputy captain.

”In a related development, Thomas Teye Partey of Atletico Madrid has been appointed as 1st Vice Captain while Richard Ofori steps in as 2nd Vice Captain.

”The trio will lead the team as the Black Stars go through the remaining Africa Cup of Nation qualifiers as well as the qualifying games for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the respective tournaments.”

Following the decision of former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah, Asamoah Gyan decided to retire from the team he scored 51 goals with. And remains the all time top scorer.

However, he rescinded as Ghana president Nana Akufo-Addo phoned him and requested a meeting with Appiah and Black Stars management committee.

More than a year today after these new roles, it is clear that Asamoah Gyan will make a decision concerning his international career. Aged 34, he is currently a free agent following the end of his contract at Israeli top-flight side North East United in early 2020.
