Senegal international stopper Edouard Mendy has reportedly completed his medical with Premier League side Chelsea as he is set leave French Ligue 1 side Rennes.

This summer, Chelsea were looking for a new goalkeeper. Indeed, coach Frank Lampard has never been a big fan of Kepa Arrizabalaga, who wants to stay and win at all costs with the Blues. But he will have to deal with a strong competitor, since Rennais Edouard Mendy will enter. Sky Sports informs that the 28-year-old goalkeeper was spending his medical examination with the London club, led to formalize the arrival of the former goalkeeper from the Stade de Reims in the next 24 hours.

In a press conference this afternoon, Lampard said of the 28-year-old doorman: “ Yes, Mendy is undergoing his medical check-up as we speak. If everything is ok, he will become a Chelsea player ”.

The Senegalese international is to be transferred to Stamford Bridge for the sum of 22 million pounds, or 25 million euros, and initial a five-year contract. Among the Blues, Edouard Mendy will compete with the Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga.
