Africa Didier Drogba : Ivorian Star Received His UEFA President’s Award 2020

As announced, Didier Drogba was honored this Thursday. The former Ivorian international was really in Switzerland where he received the UEFA President’s Award 2020. It was in the framework of the Champions League draw.


Drogba is the first African and non-European to receive this award. And he has been selected for his qualities both on and outside the field.

“Didier is a hero in the eyes of millions of football fans for his achievements throughout his brilliant playing career. He is a leader – a pioneer. He impressed me not with his talent, his strength and his intelligence, but especially with his insatiable appetite for success – an aspect of his personality that is also present in his desire to help others outside the playing ground.” Said Aleksander Ceferin, the President of the UEFA.

Winning the Champions League and scoring for my country in the World Cup were things I could strongly dream when I was a child.” said Drogba. “There are so many children in developing countries who have the potential to become not only footballers, but also doctors, teachers and engineers. That is why it is so important to help and support young people to achieve their dreams and goals.” He added.
