South Africa Telkom Knockout removed for 2020/21 season, PSL chairman confirms

Telkom Knockout

Telkom Knockout is cancelled from the 2020/21 season, Premier Soccer League chairman Dr Irvin Khoza, announced on Thursday in a press conference.

After revealing start dates for MTN8 and DStv Premiership on Wednesday, PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza has also announced that Telkom Knockout competition will not be played this season.

Soccer Laduma reports that Telkom and PSL’s relationship has come to an end in June. And the chairman confirmed the news.

“We are constrained as the PSL, which I did indicate in one of my [previous] press conferences that we don’t have Telkom anymore as a sponsor, while Absa has just left us and been replaced by DStv, but it is a blessing in disguise, the issue of Telkom, because it gives us the dates to decongest the fixtures as best we can to finish the season by latest early June, though I’ve not seen the fixtures,” PSL chairman said.

“So, Telkom has been a very good sponsor of ours but they are out [now]. I can gladly announce that next season, somebody is going to take the space of that competition. But for now, this year we did not want to have that space because of the congestion that we have already experienced,” Khoza added.
