Série A Chris Smalling bids farewell to Man Utd after permanent move to AS Roma

English centre-back Chris Smalling wrote a touching farewell message to Manchester United on social media as he completed his permanent move to Serie A side AS Roma.

Chris Smalling signed a three-year deal with a year in option with Roma on the deadline day of the transfer window. The 30-year-old defender spent the 2019/20 season with the Italian club and feels happy to join them definitely.

However, he did not forget Old Trafford, the Stadium he joined ten years ago.

“It all began in July 2010, and now 10 years, 323 appearances, 2 titles, and 6 cups later it has come to an end. Utd is a special place, and we achieved special things together, something I am beyond proud about. An unrivalled culture, where winning is not a want it is a need.” Smalling wrote on social media.

“I leave not only a better player, but a better person, with Utd forever in my DNA. For that I have to thank all the staff, everyone connected to the club, and you the fans. Nothing surer you will continue to greatness. CS” he added.

Moreover, he also sent special message to AS Roma fans feeling happy the club becomes his permanent home after one year on loan.

“I arrived last summer, and although temporary at the time, I knew instantly it would be my permanent home. Cannot wait to get started again, the journey continues, enjoy the ride!” he said.

In addition, he received a warm welcome from fans at his return to the club earlier on Tuesday.
