Ghanaian Players abroad Caleb Ekuban tests positive for Coronavirus, Trabzonspor announce

Turkish Super Lig side have confirmed on Monday that their Ghanaian striker Caleb Ekuban has contracted coronavirus following his return from international duty.

Caleb Ekuban was selected by CK Akonnor for Mali (0-3) and Qatar (5-1) in Black Stars’ October friendlies. However, it happened that his roommate has tested positive for the COVID-19.

Though, his first test came out negative, the second appeared to be positive.

“After our football player Caleb Ansah Ekuban returned from the Ghana National team camp to Trabzon on October 13, it was learned that his roommate in the camp tested positive for COVID-19,” Trabzonspor said in a statement.

“Our player, who was isolated and followed-up on the grounds that he was in contact with the positive case, was treated in the hospital with high fever complaints in the following days and the two PCR tests applied together were negative.

“Our football player, whose last test was positive on October 17, 2020, was taken to home isolation and his treatment started.”

In addition, Ekuban is the sixth Black Star to contracted the dangerous virus after Jordan Ayew, Bernard Mensah, Joseph Aidoo, Kasim Adams and Gideon Mensah.
