Africa Soccer PSL: Kondowe Urges Gaba To Move On And Avoid Negativity

Fischer Kondowe has advised Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango not to be too disturbed for missing out the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Player of the Year nominees in South Africa.

Mhango is conspicuously missing from the list of the nominees despite winning the Golden Boot Award jointly with Peter Shalulile, then of Highlands Park, after tying on 16 goals each last season.

Shalulile, who has since signed for Mamelodi Sundowns, has made the cut alongside team-mates Gaston Sirino, Themba Zwane and Samir Nurkovic of Kaizer Chiefs.

But Kondowe said winning the Golden Boot Award is not always the passport to earning Player of the Year nomination.

The former Umthatha Bush Bucks midfielder said selectors look at other factors such as consistency in performance.

It depends on consistency and that is how you win player of the season.

“You need to be consistent say in five consecutive games and struggle in one, pick up your form again and do that all season,” he said.

With the new season underway, Kondowe has since advised his former Nyasa Big Bullets team-mate to hit the ground running and avoid negativity.

“He must not even be worried at all.

“Time will come when the awards will come on their own.

“He must play with a free spirit because that is the only way he can gain confidence and with it, consistency.

“As a striker, you always want to score goals but even if he does not score, it does not mean that he has not played well.

To win the player of the year award, the selectors also look at factors like assists so those are the things that he must be thinking about,” Kondowe said.
