Champions League UCL: Messi Reaches Another Champions League Milestone

Lionel Messi became the first player in UEFA Champions League history to score in 16 consecutive seasons of the tournament as he helped Barcelona to a 5-1 win against Ferencravos.
Messi got the Blaugrana to a perfect start in their opening game against the Hungarian champions who played for the first time in Camp Nou.

After losing by 1-0 to Getafe in the La Liga last weekend, Barca players quite understood that there was no room for complacency.

The visitors threatened first with Norwegian striker Tokmac Nguen blasting a fine finish into the back of the net after just 11 minutes but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Again Ferencravos got another chance as  Israel rifled one onto Neto’s crossbar.

After failing to utilize their chances, Barcelona was awarded a penalty after Messi was fouled inside the box.

Messi took matters on his shoulder and converted from the spot in 27th minute to make it 16  his consecutive seasons of goals in the competition.

Ferencravos goalkeeper Dibusz prevented Barça from extending their lead before they finally did.

Andy Fati netted Barca second goal to before he set up Philippe Coutinho who made it 3-0 in the 52 minutes.

Despite three goals ahead, there was an unexpected twist as Gerard Pique was sent off for upending Ferencravos player as the referee also awarded a penalty to the visitors.

Ihor Kharatin became the first player from the Hungary side to score in Camp Nou as he made no mistake from the spot.

Barca seems not disturbed even with a man down as debutant Pedri scored on the night of his Champions League debut to make it 4-1.

After setting Pedri for the fourth goal, Ousmane Dembélé then got his name on the scoresheet with Messi providing the assist to cap off what was already a cruise.

Barcelona now tops Group G on goal difference after Juventus won 2-0 away against Dynamo Kyiv.
