Patrice Motsepe

Mamelodi Sundowns owner Patrice Motsepe has been announced as a candidate for the upcoming Confederation of African Football (CAF) Presidential Elections in March 2021.

The news has been confirmed by South African Football Association (SAFA) chairman Danny Jordan earlier on Monday after a press conference. As Motsepe is put into quarantine after having tested positive for Covid-19.

“Caf must improve its global standing,” Jordan told BBC Sport Africa.

“He is the most appropriate person we could offer for the leadership of Caf. We do not want any compromise on governance or ethics in football.” he added.

Patrice Motsepe is the second to announce he will be candidate to CAF’s presidency after Jacques Anouma, ex-member of FIFA Executive Committee received the support of Ivorian FA on Sunday.

The Ongoing president Ahmad Ahmad said in October he will apply for a second mandate. But he is far from achieving unanimity.

In addition, it is reported that Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick has backed Motsepe’s candidacy instead of applying himself his bid.
