Africa Soccer MOZAMBIQUE: Vilankulo sack coach, hunt for replacement begins

Mozambique top-flight football club, Associação Desportiva de Vilankulo (ADV), has sacked its coach ahead of the Mocambola League kick-off next month.

Mozambican publication LanceM has confirmed that the team, formerly ENH Futebol Clube-Vilankulo, terminated the contract of coach Sérgio Traguil. The coach has since returned home to Portugal.

“The fact was communicated to the coach in a letter sent by the management of the only community team in the province of Inhambane that will participate in Mozambique League,” the newspaper reports.

Chiquinho Conde and Artur Semedo have since been linked as possible candidates for the vacant coaching job at ENH.

In another development, Mozambique league defending champions, Costa do Sol, have extended the contract of their Portuguese coach Horácio Gonçalves, the club announced on its Facebook page.

“Therefore, Gonçalves will be the coach of the “Canarinhos” until the end of 2022 after being hired in the middle of the 2018 season.  Success of the team led by the Portuguese coach was felt in the first season with the winning of the Mozambique Cup.

“In the following season, he continued to collect trophies with the conquest of the Super Cup Mário Esteves Coluna, Maputo City Opening Tournament and the National Football Championship,” the club says.

The 57-year-old Portuguese coached clubs in Portugal, Cyprus and in Greece before embarking on the Mozambique adventure in 2018.
