Africa Soccer COSAFA U-20 : SOUTH AFRICA WIN CHAMPIONSHIP

Hosts South Africa defeated Zambia 4-2 on post-match penalties to lift the Cosafa Under-17 championship on Sunday, November 29 2020.

The Cosafa Youth Championship staged at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium served as the qualifier for the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2021 finals in Morocco.

South Africa and Zambia have since booked their places at the Afcon finals in Morocco.

Both teams settled for a 1-1 draw in regulation time after Joseph Banda put the Zambians ahead from the penalty spot before Thabang Mahlangu equalized late in the game.

In the end, South Africa goalkeeper Enrique Erasmus made two saves in the penalties to earn his side the win.

The hosts also produced the best player of the tournament in Mduduzi Shabalala while Zambians Banda and Eric Makungu earned Golden Boot (five goals) and keeper of the competition awards respectively.
