Africa Soccer AFCON U-20 QUALIFIERS : ZAMBIA SILENCE MALAWI

Zambia characteristically silenced neighbours Malawi 2-0 at the Cosafa Qualifiers for the Under-20 AFCON on Wednesday December 9 2020.

The win saw the defending champions securing the safe semi-final passage at the competition underway in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Zambia went into the group B match needing just a point to clinch the last-four slot.

However, Jimmy Mukeya 21st minute and 67th minute goals meant that Zambia got more than what they had bargained for at Wolfson Stadium.

So, Zambia finished on top of group B with nine points from three games and are yet to concede whereas Malawi have three points from three games.

Bottom-placed Comoros are going home having posted three consecutive losses, the latest being on Wednesday to Namibia.

The misfortune of Comoros is a blessing for Namibia who have since booked their semi-final slot as the overall second best team across the three groups.

Namibia have finished the group qualifiers with six points from three games.

Elsewhere, Mozambique and Angola are through to the semi-finals of the competition after qualifying from group A and C respectively.

Group winners plus overall second best across the three groups advanced to the semi-finals and the eventual finalists will make it to Africa Cup of Nations finals for this age group next year in Mauritania.
