Africa Soccer CAF Finally Opened Up On 2022 AFCON Playoffs Gambia – Gabon Incident

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has finally opened up on the incidents that occurred last month. It was within the framework of 2022 AFCON 4th day playoffs game between Gambia and Gabon.

No African football observer will soon forget these images that have circulated on social networks last month. Gabonese selection arrived in Banjul where they had been blocked for several hours at the airport. They had even spent the night there.

Gabonese Football Federation seized the CAF after this incident following which the Panthers lost against the Scorpions (2-1). The African football body spoke out on Tuesday about this unfortunate incident.

According to the disciplinary commission of the African football governing body, “the Gambian Federation has not respected the values of loyalty, sporting integrity and the rules of fair play regarding the reception of the Gabonese delegation.” The CAF has fined them for $100,000, including $50,000 suspended. Proveded that they will not be convicted of a similar offence within the next 24 months.

A sanction that will undoubtedly not please the Gabonese Federation. They who have been expecting the CAF to make the decision that the match to be replayed. Or better, Gambians lost the game.
