African players abroad Ndidi, Iheanacho in action as Leicester pick Europa League knockout ticket

Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho were in action as Leicester pipped AEK Anthens 2-0 to reach the round of 32 of the Europa League.

Both players were handed a starting XI spot by Brendan Rodgers as the Foxes finished top of Group G.

Ndidi who just returned from injury played for 63 minutes before he was replaced by Nampalys Mendy.

Iheanacho didn’t also complete game as he was substituted in the 67th minute with Ayoze Perez taking his place.

Iheanacho and Ndidi starts for Leicester City in Thursday’s Europa League victory against AEK Anthens.

A lightning-fast start to the clash on Filbert Way saw Cengiz Ünder volley home on 12 minutes before Harvey Barnes’ deflected strike found the net just two minutes later as City secured top spot in their pool.

After the game, Iheanacho tweeted;

Great work out there to go top of the group 💪🏾🦊.”

Reflecting on the game also, Rodgers said it was the target of his team to finish top of the group.

“It was a scenario that was spoke about before the game,” Rodgers told LCFC TV

We wanted to finish in first place and cap off a good competition so far. 

“The players responded to that really, really well.

“We mentioned about making a quick start. 

“We’ve been very strong in that opening sector of the game, and in the first 25 minutes, we played with a really good intensity and speed, and scored two quality goals with opportunities to score more.

“The only problems we caused were one or two ourselves, when we had rash clearances and gave them a couple of corners, but apart from that, our tempo was very good and the speed in our game was excellent.”

Leicester City will know their round of 32 opponent on Monday.
