Foot Africa Former Kaizer Chiefs And Orlando Pirates Coach Joe Frickleton Passed Away

The Siya crew got confirmation that a former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates coach has passed away. Local media widely reported earlier this year that Joe Frickleton was admitted to a hospital in Cape Town due to dementia. He who has been deemed as one of the most successful coaches in early South African football.

However, today, months after the football fraternity learnt about his illness, Frickelton’s good friend and former Highlands Park teammate, Martin Cohen confirmed to the Siya crew that Frickleton passed away in Cape Town.

As a coach, Frickleton won the league title. They include the JPS Knockout Cup, the ‘Champ of Champs’ and the Mainstay Cup with Chiefs back in 1984. And he thereafter helped Pirates clinch the African Champions Cup (now CAF Champions League) in 1995. It was he when he took over the reins from Mike Makaab.

During his playing days, the Scotsman spent the majority of his professional football career on the books of Highlands Park. It was between 1964 and 1974, winning several honours at the club.

Soccer Laduma would like to send heartfelt condolences to the family and friends affected by Frickleton’s passing.
