Africa Soccer MOZAMBIQUE : COSAFA-WINNING COACH DECLINES HERO STATUS

Coach Dario Montario has refused to take the credit for leading Mozambique under-20 national team to the Cosafa championship in South Africa over the weekend.

Mozambique won the junior championship for the first time in the country’s history after beating Namibia 1-0 on Sunday in Port Elizabeth.

Back home, Montario has been receiving the kudos for the achievement.

He was treated to heros welcome after the Mozambique government chartered a plane for the cup-winning team.

However, the former Mozambique international has insisted that it was the players who deserve the credit for a job well done.

This title was only important thanks to the effort, sacrifice, determination and character of the players. They are the heroes. The coach is the players, with all their talent, dedication, commitment and everything they did to win this COSAFA title,” he said.

The young Mambas have also qualified the Africa Cup of Nations for the under-20 scheduled for Mauritania next year.
