Upon making his first appearance in Egyptian Premier League with Wadi Degla this season, Abdelmonsef started his 25th professional season. This means that he has equalled AS Roma and AC Milan legends Francesco Totti and Paolo Maldini’s records. And he could potentially break it next season.

Mohamed Abdelmonsef, said that he’s happy to have equaled Francesco Totti and Paolo Maldini’s for most consecutive seasons played.

“If I get the chance of playing next season, I will surpass Francesco Totti and Paolo Maldini’s record.” Wadi Degla goalkeeper told MBC Masr.

“I’m playing for the 25th consecutive season, domestically. Hossam Hassan played 22 seasons and Essam El-Hadary 21. He added,

“The duo played abroad, Hossam Hassan playing in Switzerland and El-Hadary in Sudan, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland.

“On the global level, I overtook Ryan Giggs, with 24 seasons, and equaled Totti and Maldini [25 seasons].

“I still have an Argentine goalkeeper to beat, according to FIFA’s records. I can surpass him if I play next season.

“Any player can achieve this record while sitting on the bench. But if you participate all this period, it’s something great.

“Foreign coaches don’t care about emotions. So if you are not perfectly prepared, you will not participate in the matches. Even if it is to achieve a record.” Abdelmonsef concluded.

The 43-year-old started his career with Dina Farms in 1995 before moving to Zamalek where he stayed for 11 years.

He then went on to sign for El-Gouna, Ittihad of Alexandria, ENPPI and finally Wadi Degla where he has been for the past three years.
