News NWFL: Amarachi lone goal returns Delta Queens to winning ways

Amarachi Orjinma’s solitary goal helped Delta Queens return to winning ways in the Nigeria Women Football League(NWFL) Premiership week 3 game against Sunshine Queens.

Delta Queens after last week’s heavy defeat to Rivers Angels hosted Sunshine Queens in Agbor Stadium on Wednesday, in match day 3 in the NWPL.

Coach David Ochei led technical side made four changes to the squad that lost 6-2 to Rivers Angels in Port Harcourt in week 2.

Onuegbu Iheoma was restored to goal while Ijeh Eluemunor, Emeka Oluchi and Okotete Rachael also started.

The game was balanced as both sides played fantastic football but failed to find the net.

The visitors played comfortably in the back and tried to hit on the counter.

Neither sides were able to break the deadlock heading to the break.

At the resumption of the second half, Delta Queens intensified their efforts to get a much needed goal as they pulled more up front.

Amarachi was brought to the game in the second half in a tactical switch of formation by the technical crew.

The diminutive midfielder became the heroine of the day as she scored in the 52nd minute through a goal mouth scramble.

The visitors began to push for an equalizer but couldn’t find the net

The victory means Delta Queens will head to 2021 on a winning note as the league will go on break for the festive period.

Their first game after the break will see them on an away encounter against Nasarawa Amazons on January 6, 2021.
