Kwara United got their 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season with an emphatic 2-0 win against last season champions-elect Plateau United.
After nine months of non-league action in the NPFL due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, the final got underway on Sunday 27th December 2020.
The Afonja Warriors showed a glimpse of their preparedness as title contender for this season as they started on a brighter note.
Both teams failed to break the deadlock heading to the first half break.
However, Kwara continuous knock on the door of the host goal yielded a positive result as Jide Fatokun broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute.
Five minutes later, Michael Ohanu headed home the second goal from a Kabir Balogun’s assist.
The reigning NPFL champions could do nothing to salvage themselves against a determined Afonja Warriors.
