Egypt Zamalek Have Officially Extended Contract With Mahmoud Gennesh

Zamalek goalkeeper, Mahmoud Abdelrahim Gennesh, has signed a long-term contract extension with the Whites. Gennesh’s spot in the Zamalek squad has been threatened with the arrival of several high caliber goalkeepers. They are such as Mohamed Abogabal and Mohamed Awad.

Despite being a regular starter during the 2018/2019 season, Gennesh suffered an ankle injury that put him on the sidelines for the vast majority of the 2019/2020 season.

Since September of 2019 he has made just seven appearances across all competitions, with Abogabal becoming the first choice goalkeeper. It however seems that the club isn’t planning on letting him go anytime soon. As he just put pen-to-paper a three-year contract extension.

Many reports suggested that there were some disagreements between the club and the player. This regarding his wages as he wanted to equal Mohamed Awad’s salary. However, both parties were able to find an agreement after long negotiations.

He becomes the latest Zamalek player to sign a new deal after team captain Mahmoud Shikabala, Ahmed Fetouh, and Youssef Obama.

Since joining the White Castle back in 2011 from Alexandria’s Olympic Club, the 33-year-old has made over 100 appearances in the iconic white jersey.

During that time he helped them lift 12 trophies including one Egyptian Premier League title. Six Egypt Cups, two Egyptian Super Cups, a CAF Confederation Cup, and the CAF Super Cup.

On the international level, Gennesh has two caps to his name. He made his international debut in a friendly against Nigeria in March 2019.
