Africa Soccer Delivery of the National Women’s Championship Cup and kick-off of the first professional women’s soccer season

The cup of the national women’s championship season 2019-2020 was awarded Sunday, January 3, 2021 to the Sports Association of the Royal Army Forces (AS FAR) by the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa in the company of the President of the National Women’s Football League (LNFF), Ms. Khadija Ila. Mrs. Illa who is also president of the Laâyoune club playing in the first division, the AMLFF.

AS FAR was crowned champion 2019-2020 by dominating the ranking with 66 points.

AS FAR received the trophy at a ceremony held at the sports center of FAR in Salé at the end of the first meeting season 2020-2021 of the professional women’s soccer championship of first division between AS FAR-Atlas 05.

After the creation of the National Women’s Football League in November 2019, several actions were launched. On March 8, 2020, the International Women’s Football Cup was organized at the Mohammed VI Complex in Salé. Gabon and Ghana were invited to participate in this competition and the matches were broadcast by the national sports channel Arryadia. On August 6, 2020, a contract of objectives was signed between the FRMF, the LNFF, the National Technical Directorate and the Regional Leagues.

Despite the long pause due to covid-19, the National Championship came to an end for the 2019-2020 season, thanks to the efforts of the FRMF, the LNFF and the clubs. And the 2020-2021 season will mark a turning point in the history of national women’s soccer and the beginning of a new era of professionalism.

The new women’s professional championship will have 14 teams in D1, 30 in D2 divided into two groups of 15 in 2020/2021 and 28 teams divided into two groups of 14 in 2021/2022.

The clubs must have a Senior team, a U17 team and another U15 team to participate in the competitions that concern them, in addition to the obligatory designation of a woman as assistant coach, if the head coach is a man and the staff of the U15 must be entirely composed of women.

The contract of objectives, signed on August 6, 2020 between the FRMF, the LNFF, the DTN and the Regional Leagues, stipulates that the players of the Senior Women’s team must all have a professional contract in accordance with the statutes and regulations in force. Thus the players of the Senior Women’s team will all be awarded a professional contract, with a mandatory minimum wage of 350 dollars for those playing in the 1st division, and 260 dollars for those playing in the 2nd division.

Concerning the technical staff, a head coach will receive a minimum salary of 5000 DH and must not be less than 2600 DH for the coaches of the second division.

By 2024, the objective is to create 1000 technical staff and to have 90 000 licensees.

Morocco is in a very ambitious policy at the level of women’s soccer which is materialized in particular by the appointment of Reynald Pedros at the head of the national women’s A team. The coach is considered one of the best in the world, he has won the Champions League twice with Olympique Lyonnais.
