Al Ahly share the Group A with Al-Merriekh for the 2020/2021 CAF Champions League group stages. They are alongside DR Congo’s AS Vita, Simba SC of Tanzania.
Ahead of their first game to take place on 12th or 13th February, Sudanese club Al-Merriekh head coach, Didier Gomes, talked about Al Ahly manager Pitso Mosimane.
Talking about Mosimane, the Frenchman praised his managerial abilities and discussed Al Ahly’s squad.
“Everyone knows Mosimane. Given what he did in the past and being the best coach in South Africa. Facing him is a pleasure for me.” He told OnTime Sports TV.
“I respect Pitso a lot, as he has a good vision as well as a distinguished personality. Al-Ahly’s choice to sign him was very successful.
“I know Al-Ahly well. I follow them from Sudan. And I saw their good start in the Egyptian League. And last season, the team was performing brilliantly with the Rene Weiler.
“He has players with a lot of experience and have a lot of harmony that was developed over the years.
“I watch Al-Ahly’s matches a lot. The team has made great additions in the transfer market. Most notably Morocco’s Badr Banoune, the former Raja player. And I know that their current goal is to defend the title.
“We have a great team. And I trust their ability to reach the quarter-finals and qualify from this group to the second round. And this is what every team seeks.” He concluded.
