Dstv Premiership Kaizer Chiefs Lost 0-2 Against Maritzburg United In DStv Premiership

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp marked a victorious return to the FNB Stadium. This with a 2-0 win over Amakhosi for his Maritzburg United side in a DStv Premiership encounter on Saturday evening.

The first half game was goalless. But thanks to Judas Moseamedi’s brace in the second half made Kaizer Chiefs still feel hungry.

The first half was an uninspired affair as both sides made unforced errors. And they failed to test the opposition goal.

Chiefs just about shaded the opening 45 minutes, enjoying more of the ball. But despite trying to be positive in their build-up play, too often their moves broke down in the final third of the field.

However, it was instead the KwaZulu-Natal side who began to enjoy more of the ball. And they shocked the hosts by taking a 66th-minute lead. This was through a deft glancing header from Moseamedi, who timed his run expertly to get on the end of Gadinkame Modise’s in-swinging cross from the right.

Chiefs rallied to a degree as Anthony Akumu sent a 70th-minute header marginally wide. And then Darrel Matsheke scooped a shot over the bar five minutes later.

But instead Moseamedi hit Amakhosi with another hammer blow. Doubling the lead in the 79th minute with a superb volley from a tight angle after he had done well to bring down Daniel Morgan’s long throw-in.

Amakhosi battled hard in the closing stages of the game. But they never really looked like pulling a goal back as the visitors defended with focus and determination to claim just their second win of the season.
