Embattled CAF President Ahmad Ahmad has resumed duty following the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) who’s suspended his sanction.
Ahmad was suspended by the FIFA Adjudicatory Chamber for corruption and mismanagement of funds but the suspension was overturned in last Friday’s ruling by CAS.
The CAF president who assumed his position on Sunday thanked acting President, Omari Constant for his efforts to implement the organization of the 2020 CHAN competition.

He promised to take part in the closing ceremony of the competition.
He said, “I warmly thank Constant Omari for having assumed the presidency in recent weeks.
In particular, he brilliantly implemented the organization of CHAN TOTAL Cameroon 2020.
” I will bring this magnificent competition to a close, and allow football, as always, to triumph.”
According to a statement made available by CAFonline, the decision to reinstate Ahmad was reached after a video conference with the acting President Omari.
“Consequently, he has in fact been restored to his position. At the invitation of the Acting President, Mr. Constant Omari, the CAF Emergency Committee met this Sunday, 31 January 2021 by video conference and took notice of CAS decision.
“Regarding his candidacy for the up-coming CAF elections for the position of President, President Ahmad Ahmad, respectful of the institution’s procedures, will meet CAF Governance Committee on Monday.
“The former President of the Malagasy Football Federation, was elected President of the African Football Confederation on 17 March 2017.
“His tenure at the head of continental football was marked by numerous administrative and sports reforms which were intended to enable the institution to raise its standards towards greater excellence.
“He intends to continue with the implementation of these reforms,”the statement concluded.
