Africa Soccer SOUTH AFRICA : CAPE TOWN SPURS HIRE THREE BRAZILIAN PLAYERS

South Africa’s second tier league side, Cape Town Spurs, formerly Ajax Cape Town, have signed three players from Brazil.

The club hopes the new additions will help Spurs to survive relegation inthe GladAfrica Championship and even vie for DStv Premiership promotion.

In a statement, Spurs announced the signing of the three players who join compatriot Jairo Souza Da Silva at the club.

Cape Town Spurs are excited to announce the signings of Elisio Batista da Conceição Junior, Igor Ferreira Neto de Oliveira and Kassiano Soares Mendonça,” the club’s statement reads.

Batista, 27, joins the club having last played for Ferroviário Atlético Clube in his native Brazil. Prior to that, the towering centre-forward plied his trade in Portugal, Australia and Malta.

“Igor, better known as the Brazilian Balotelli, most recently donned the colours of Clube Atlético Serranense. At 24 years of age, he is the youngest of the trio.

“Kassiano, 25, is a versatile defender. He cut his teeth at the famous Fluminense academy before spells in Finland, Slovakia, Malta and most recently Thailand.”

Spurs hired Ian Taylor as head coach to replace Vladislav Heric with Nathan Paulse installed as an assistant coach.

Spurs face Baroka FC away in the Nedbank Cup last-32 on Monday.

In the league, Spurs are second from bottom with 10 points from 11 games whereas Sukhukhune leads the way with 20 points from 12 games.
