Bayern Munich goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, revealed he has a lot of respect for his Al Ahly counterpart Mohamed El-Shennawy.
Neuer faced El-Shennawy, when the Bavarians beat the Reds 2-0 in the Club World Cup semi-finals.
Despite the defeat, the Egypt international had a solid performance. And he gained the respect of many including Neuer.
“I think El-Shennawy and Al Ahly breaking the record of number of appearances in the tournament is special.” Neuer told FIFA.com.
“I think the team should celebrate this achievement. Of course, only one team can reach the final. And we did it.
“I think respect is part of it. And it’s something special to me.
“Whenever active goalkeepers, say that I’m their idol, I think you notice that we respect each other on the field and love each other.
“El-Shennawy and I hugged after the match. We shook hands with and exchanged shirts.
“For me, it was a great encounter. And I wish Al Ahly and their goalkeeper all the best in the future.” Neuer concluded.
