CAF Champions League Pitso Mosimane speaks on good title defence start, Bwalya’s 1st goal

Pitso Mosimane

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane expressed delight after his men trounced Sudanese champions Al-Merrikh (3-0) in the matchday 1 of the CAF Champions league group stage.

For Pitso, the result is a great one regarding the absences the club suffered ahead of this game with five key players being ruled out.

On the fact that they failed to score at least one goal during the first half, the South African manager explained that is football and things may come later sometimes.

Furthermore, “Jingles” hailed Congolese striker Walter Bwalya who scored his first ever Al Ahly goal before concluding that he will say nothing about Al Ahly’s position (second) on the Egyptian Premier League standings until they played their remaining encounters (two to four).

“A good start if we want to talk about defending the title”, Pitso Mosimane said.

“Three points out of three goals. We are happy with the result and the performance. The goals came late, but this is football.

“We must not forget that we are missing five key players, so we were late in scoring the first half, but we returned in the second half, and it is natural that some positions on the pitch will change due to the absences.

“I am happy that Walter Bwalya scored his first goal with Al Ahly, and also Junior Ajayi played the whole match because he was away for the last period, and he had to play the game to refill his energy.

“After clinching the bronze medal in the Club World Cup, and the intensity of the games that the players have fought, I spoke to them and asked them not to rush, and told them that we must win the first three matches in order to qualify early.

“No team in Egypt suffers from the intensity of matches like us. We played 3 World Cup matches, and we have two Super Cups, Egyptian and African.

“All things are going 100% as I want, and I will not talk about the league standings until we play the delayed games. Our league position will change,

“It is possible that we do not have good players on the individual skill level, but they write a history for them, and do not compare generations with each other, but compare the results,” he added.
