Nigeria Delta Queens defender Comfort makes NWFL team of the week 8

 
Delta Queens FC left full back Folorunsho Comfort has been included in the Nigeria Women Football League(NWFL) Premierhip team of the week 8.
 
With week 9 of the NWFL upon us on Wednesday, players that performed excellently for their clubs in the week under review made the team of week 8.
 
Comfort has been impressive for the Okowa Girls who have gone four games unbeaten so far.
 
She alongside, Edafe Omamuzo and Michael Angela has built a formidable defence line as Delta Queens are yet to concede in their las four games.
 
 

Week eight of the 2021 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership witnessed seven home wins from all seven centres with Pelican Stars the only away team to score a goal.

 

Here are the NWFL team of the week with FC Robo manager Emmanuel Osahon as the head coach for week 8.

IBUBELEYE WHYTE (RIVERS ANGELS, GOALKEEPER)

Whyte was behind the sticks as defending Champions, Rivers Angels continue to mount pressure on league leaders, Bayelsa Queens with a resounding 3-0 win over Royal Queens FC. The goalie kept her third clean sheet in eight games after her side’s last week’s victory. Her experience is helping Rivers Angels push for the league title.

HAPPINESS TITUS (CONFLUENCE QUEENS, RIGHT FULL-BACK)

The Confluence Queens defender put up a superb defensive display as the New Direction Ladies defeated Abia Angels 1-0 to record their third win of the campaign.

Even though she played from the centre-back, she earned a spot here from the right full back.

FOLORUNSO COMFORT (DELTA QUEENS, LEFT FULL-BACK)

Comfort is comfortably helping Delta Queens’ defence line alongside Mamuzo Edafe to earn a four-game unbeaten run in the league with victories over Bayelsa Queens, FC Robo Queens, and recently Edo Queens in week eight.

Amarachi Okoronkwo (Nasarawa Amazons, Defensive Midfield)

Amarachi scored her second goal of the season for Nasarawa Amazons as they dispatched Osun Babes 2-0 in Lafia.

She has been consistent and truly earned her spot here.

TOSIN DEMEHIN (SUNSHINE QUEENS, DEFENDER, CENTRE BACK)

Tosin Demehin opened her goal account for the Betty BBabes last Wednesday from her defensive position as Sunshine Queens pummelled Pelican Stars 4-1. The hardworking defender has been solid for Sunshine Queens this season.

Chidinma Ogbuchi (FC Robo Queens, Centre Back)

Chidinma Ogbuchi was pivotal in ensuring that FC Robo Queens return to winning ways after their previous defeat. She helped her side to a comfortable 5-0 win over DreamStar FC Ladies.

JOY OMEWA (CONFLUENCE QUEENS, STRIKER)

The top goal scorer from the 2020 Flying Officers Cup, Joy Omewa’s goal (her first for the season) was crucial in securing a 1-0 win over Abia Angels.

ZAINAB OLAPADE (BAYELSA QUEENS, MIDFIELD)

Zainab’s role for Bayelsa Queens in their 4-0 win over Ibom Angels was a key one. She didn’t score but posed a remarkable threat to their opponent’s defence leading to goals from Anjor Mary, Bokiri Joy, and Charity Reuben.

ANJOR MARY (BAYELSA QUEENS, ATTACK)

The former Osun Babes forward scored two goals to propel Restoration Girls to a 4-0 win over Ibom Angels. The two goals took her tally to four in eight games.

Suliat Abideen (Sunshine Queens, Central Midfield)

Suliat like Anjor Mary also scored two goals for Sunshine Queens in the course of their 4-1 win against Pelican Stars. The two goals were her first for the season as her side returned to winning ways after their 1-0 loss to Osun Babes in their previous game.

GIFT MONDAY (FC ROBO QUEENS,STRIKER)

Gift returned to the league after featuring for the Super Falcons at the Turkish Women’s Cup and continued her goal-scoring form with a goal for FC Robo Queens who ran riot with a 5-0 win over DreamStar FC Ladies. She is joint leading goal scorer with five goals in eight games alongside Charity Reuben.

Manager: Emmanuel Osahon (FC Robo Queens)

The grassroots coach noted for spotting talents like Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade guided FC Robo Queens to the biggest win of week eight. A resounding 5-0 win over Lagos rivals, DreamStar FC Ladies didn’t project the game as a top derby clash as FC Robo Queens showed their neighbours no-mercy and recovered from the previous week’s dilemma.
