AFCON Bongani Zungu to join Bafana Bafana only in Khartoum for Sudan clash

South Africa national team doctor Thulani Ngwenya. explained on Monday that Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu will join his teammates, only in Khartoum for 2021 AFCON qualifiers matchday 6.

Contrary to Brighton & Hove Albion player Percy Tau, Zungu who wears the outfit of Rangers FC cannot join his teammates in Johannesburg for matchday 5 five game against Ghana on Thursday, March 25.

Bafana team doctor revealed that discussions failed through and the 28-year-old will join the team of Molefi Ntseki just in Khartoum, where Bafana will engage Sudan on Sunday, March 28.

“We are negotiating. For example, with Keagan Dolly, the situation is a problem in France, because the country’s regulations say, when coming back from Africa, a 14-day quarantine is needed upon arrival,” explained Doctor Thulani Ngwenya as per Kickoff.

“So, that makes it unfavourable for the club to release the player, and that’s the kind of situations we are faced with. With Bongani [Zungu], we are still negotiating and it’s quite advanced, to be honest. There is a high likelihood that Bongani could join us in Sudan.

“But to be honest, the ones that haven’t arrived will not be coming to South Africa, so the next negotiation now is for them to come and join us in Sudan.”
