AFCON AFCON: CAF Confirms Gomes Replacement Ahead Egypt, Kenya Tie

CAF has replaced South African referee Victor Gomes with his compatriot Thando Ndzandzeka ahead of the AFCON qualifier game between Kenya and Egypt.

Gomes was earlier appointed to officiated the crucial Group G qualifier game but stepped down after he contracted COVID-19.

The renowned South African referee will now be replaced by Ndzandzeka who will be accompanied by countrymen Zakili Siwela.

Athenkosi Ndongeni will serve as his first and second assistants. Meanwhile, Tom Abongile will be the fourth referee.

The 41-year Ndzandzeka who made his debut in 2012 as a referee, has officiated over 200 games in his home country as well as various CAF competitions.

In the 2015/2016 South African Premier Division, he was voted as the referee of the season.

Egypt need a point to book their place in the final of the 2021 AFCON tournament that will be hosted by Cameroon.

On the other hand, Kenya will be hoping to get the maximum three points to boost their chance of qualifying.
